Former National Council Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Sunny Osuji, has received the Award of Excellence from the Ebonyi State Chapter of NIPR during the 2026 World Public Relations Day celebration.
The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to humanity, his dedicated service to the Institute, and his commitment to national development through professionalism and ethical public relations practice.
During his time as a National Council Member with oversight responsibility for the South-East Zone, Osuji coordinated strategic syndicate sessions at the NIPR Citizens Summit, an event that attracted 93 partner organizations.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osuji has made significant contributions to youth development. As a council member of the Nigerian Girls’ Guide Association and former Imo State scout commissioner, he introduced scouting and guiding into the state’s school system, helping to promote discipline and discourage cult-related activities among students.
He also served as chairman of the Imo State Chapter of NIPR, during which the chapter secured its permanent image house. In addition, he was the pioneer secretary of the NIPR South-East Forum, where he coordinated educational programs in the region and served on the Institute’s International Programs Committee. He has also been a resource person at ARCON workshops in Imo State.
On the international stage, Osuji played an active role in organizing the African Business Week held in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2014, where the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations was promoted globally. He has also participated in several national and international conferences, including the Second Pan-African Reading for All Conference in Abuja.
World Public Relations Day is celebrated every year on July 16. Established in 2021, it highlights the important role of public relations professionals in building trust, promoting ethical communication, and strengthening relationships in society. This year’s theme was “Golden Age of Strategic Public Relations.”
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations is a member of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, an international body representing more than 360,000 practitioners and academics across 126 countries. The Alliance supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and works to promote high professional standards and ethical communication worldwide.
