Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University Admits 1,371 Fresh Students

Vice Chancellor Warns Against Anti-Social Vices

Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ideato, on Friday, January 30, 2026, formally admitted 1,371 students into 33 academic programs for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking the institution’s 8th matriculation ceremony.

Administering the matriculation oath, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ikechukwu N. S. Dozie, charged the newly admitted students to internalize and faithfully abide by the oath of good behavior and conduct they had just taken. He urged them to remain disciplined and focused throughout their academic journey, reminding them that character and scholarship must go hand in hand.

Prof. Dozie expressed appreciation to the Visitor to the University and Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, for his continued support and commitment to the growth of the institution. He thereafter formally declared the matriculation ceremony open.

In his address, the vice chancellor encouraged the freshmen to strive for excellence and work diligently to earn the university’s prestigious degrees. He advised them to take full advantage of the institution’s distinctive features, including moderate tuition and accommodation fees, quality teaching and mentorship, uninterrupted academic sessions, timely graduation, prompt mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a peaceful academic community, excellent ICT facilities, and a serene and conducive learning environment.

He, however, warned the students against engaging in anti-social conduct and other forms of indiscipline. Citing the KOMU Academic Regulations for Undergraduate Students, Prof. Dozie emphasized that misconduct attracts Senate-approved sanctions and urged the students to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Student Handbook. He also admonished them to respect the customs, cultures, and traditions of the host communities, noting that the relationship between the university and its host communities has remained cordial and peaceful.

Congratulating the students for choosing KOMU, he formally welcomed them into the Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University family by virtue of the matriculation ceremony. He assured parents and guardians of the university’s unwavering commitment to producing graduates equipped with what he described as “triple capacities” for success, global competitiveness, and leadership, anchored on the institution’s core values of integrity, excellence, teamwork, innovation, and collaboration.

Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University offers bachelor’s degree programs across 33 disciplines housed within seven faculties: Allied Health Sciences; Arts; Basic Medical Sciences (Medicine and Surgery); Environmental Sciences; Law; Social and Management Sciences; and Science. The university also operates a postgraduate school.

The ceremony concluded with the formal declaration of closure by the vice chancellor, after which the academic procession recessed, giving way to celebrations as the newly admitted students shared the moment with friends and family. The event attracted representatives of the state and local governments, members of the university management, staff and students, traditional rulers and town union leaders from host communities, members of the clergy, the press, and other guests.
