CAMPAN Set to Hold National Conference for 2026

Pays a courtesy visit to Bishop Nwobi

The Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN) is set to hold the 2026 National Conference from Wednesday, March 18, 2026, to Saturday, March 21, 2026. This year’s National Conference will be hosted by the CAMPAN, Owerri Archdiocese, on the central theme: “The Media and Violence Reporting: Preserving the Human Element in a Technology-Driven Communication Ecosystem.”

The Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN) is the official body for Catholic media professionals in Nigeria, aimed at evangelization through media, promoting professional ethics, and supporting the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in communications. It unites professionals in print, electronic, and digital media to foster faith-based, truthful reporting. This association operates under the Directorate of Social Communications at the Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN). It focuses on using media to sanitize the social system, promote ethical values, and combat misinformation, particularly regarding the Catholic faith and national issues.

While creating awareness for the upcoming National Conference, some officials of CAMPAN paid a courtesy call to the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Most Rev. Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Interacting with the Bishop, Mr. Ben Osuagwu, President of CAMPAN Ahiara Diocese, on behalf of the group, expressed joy and blessedness for being able to interface with the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese. He equally used the medium to introduce to the Bishop some of their members who were part of the visit, and they included Mr. Chidi Nkwopara (CAMPAN, Chairman of Owerri Archdiocese), Mr. Chimdi Oluoha (CAMPAN National President), Dr. Richard Dirim Odu (Member), Mrs. Violet Igwe Chibuzo (CAMPAN Secretary of Owerri Archdiocese), Mr. Osuji Collins (Member), and Mr. Ben Osuagwu.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Ben Osuagwu, CAMPAN President of the Ahiara Diocese, began by thanking the bishop for giving them the opportunity to interact with him. He commended the great efforts of the media practitioners of the Diocese. Sir Chimdi Oluoha, CAMPAN National President, made known to His Lordship their upcoming National Conference, requesting that Ahiara Diocese be part of it.

The Bishop, while responding, welcomed them to the Diocese. He thanked them for the work they do as journalists, both for society and the church. He went on to say that it is a good thing for the diocese to go more global following the hiatus in development she experienced during the protracted crisis. The Bishop, thus, pledged his support to them and assured them that the media space of the diocese will continue to grow from strength to strength.

The group equally had a brief discussion with the editor of the Guide Newspaper, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Ogbonna, who appreciated their efforts of deeming it worthy to involve and carry along the Guide Newspaper in their dealings. He promised that the Guide Newspaper will not relent in any way they can to support and be part of the activities of CAMPAN.
