Seven Marriage Course Centres Set for Launch in Ahiara Diocese
In a landmark pastoral initiative aimed at strengthening the institution of Christian marriage and promoting sound family values, the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Most Rev. Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, CMF, has approved the establishment of seven marriage course centers across the diocese following the seven-deanery structure of the diocese. The Prelate while approving these centres called for the full support of the faithful, while also tasking Deans, Diocesan Catechetical Commission and Board of Religious Education with ensuring the programme’s successful take-off

An Ahiara Priest Appointed Vicar for Priests in the Diocese of San Bernardino, USA.
The Catholic Faithful of Ahiara Diocese have received with immense joy the appointment of Rev. Fr. Dr. Benedict Nwachukwu-Udaku as Vicar for Priests in the Diocese of San Bernardino, California, USA. The appointment was made known on June 29, 2026, by the Bishop of San Bernardino, Most Rev. Alberto Rojas, and officially took effect on July 1, 2026. In his new role, Fr. Nwachukwu-Udaku will serve as vicar for priests in addition to his responsibilities as the director of intellectual formation at St. Junipero Serra House in Grand Terrace, California.

STATE POLICING IGNITES NATIONAL DEBATE: Promises and Pitfalls

President Bola Tinubu’s renewed push to create state police has once again brought one of Nigeria’s most contentious constitutional debates to the forefront. With the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Alteration) State Police Bill, 2026, formally presented to the National Assembly and the inauguration of the presidential working group on the national policing bill on July 7, 2026, the conversation has shifted from whether Nigeria should have state police to whether it is prepared for such a fundamental restructuring of its policing architecture. The proposed amendment seeks to create a dual policing system—the federal and state.  While the Federal Police Service will focus on national matters like terrorism, border security, and cybercrime, the State Police Service will handle local law enforcement and order.
