VC expresses gratitude to the Governor for support
Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ideato, Imo State, has secured Council of Legal Education (CLE) approval for its law program.
The resolution was taken at the Council’s first quarterly meeting for 2026, which was held recently at the CLE headquarters in Abuja under the chairmanship of Chief Emeka Ngige SAN.
The approval, according to CLE, followed satisfactory evaluations of the institutions’ facilities, staffing, and overall compliance with required academic and professional standards during the Council’s recent facility inspections and accreditation assessments tour of the University.
With this approval by the Council of Legal Education (CLE), Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University law graduates are eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School and subsequently called to the Bar, thus qualifying them to practice as lawyers.
Recall that Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University had secured NUC approval for its Law Program barely two (2) years ago but has been waiting for this professional approval by the Council of Legal Education to enable admissions into the faculty.
The information, viewed by many as a cheering New Year gift, ignited the university community with joy as stakeholders commended the vice chancellor, Professor Ikechukwu N. S. Dozie, for the giant feat while recounting his numerous milestone achievements in the institution.
Reacting to the development, the University VC, Prof. I. N. S. Dozie, in a brief chat, expressed his profound gratitude to the Imo State Governor and University Visitor, His Excellency, Sen Hope Uzodimma CON, for his strong support to the institution
He also appreciated the dean and staff of the law faculty for their resilience and commitment to the mission and the university management and the entire university community for their cooperation in building the university to a world-class standing.
Reportedly, the CLE meeting also approved law programs for 4 new universities alongside Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU).
The meeting, according to reports, also marked the final Council appearance of the outgoing Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, whose eight-year tenure ended on January 9, 2026.
In a parting gesture, Chiroma announced a N5 million endowment to fund an annual cash prize for the Best Student in Corporate Law in future Bar examinations.
The Council formally congratulated Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote on her appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, effective January 10, 2026.
