The Holy Family Chaplaincy, Aboh Urban, has marked the first anniversary of its inauguration, joining the celebration of the liturgical Feast of the Holy Family in an atmosphere of gratitude and renewed commitment to mission.
Established on January 30, 2025, by the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese at Mater Media Village, the Chaplain, members of the Pastoral Council, the Feast/Anniversary Committee, and the entire worshipping community gathered in thanksgiving for a year marked by growth and spiritual development.
The chaplaincy serves as a pastoral and media-centered community open to the faithful without territorial limitation, reflecting a pastoral initiative attuned to the contemporary areopagus—the world of communication.
The anniversary was preceded by a three-day retreat anchored by Rev. Fr. Remigius Aforole, Parochial Vicar at Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, Oboama Ezinihitte, as well as the celebration of the Sacrament of Matrimony.
The climax of the celebration was the Holy Mass held on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Benjamin Ogbonna, Editor of The Guide Newspaper, Ahiara Diocese, and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Jude Thaddeus Osondu, Chaplain of Holy Family Chaplaincy and Manager of Mater TV.
In his homily, Fr. Ogbonna emphasized the simplicity and depth of the Christian calling. He noted that in a world dominated by self-interest and personal ambition, Christians are called to a higher standard — to choose what is good, pleasing to God, and conducive to unity.
He urged the faithful not to be swayed by fleeting pleasures but to embrace love, compassion, and obedience to God’s will.
Scholarships were awarded to selected students, while honorary and meritorious awards were presented to distinguished members of the chaplaincy. The anniversary cake was also cut amid applause.
Addressing the congregation, Fr. Osondu expressed gratitude to the Feast Committee and congratulated members of the chaplaincy. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in their efforts to grow the community.
A reception followed at the chaplaincy premises. Activities included the presentation of kolanuts by the Eze-Elect, Ikechi Osuagwu; opening remarks by the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Nnadozie Chukwuocha; and a welcome address by Hon. Tony Iwuoha.
Cultural displays, calisthenics by pupils of Queen of Peace School, Oboama Ezinihitte, drama presentations, and a friendly football match between the CMO and CWO added color to the celebration.
The first year of the chaplaincy, organizers noted, has been marked by meaningful progress and renewed commitment to its mission.
