Bishop Nwobi Inaugurates Our Lady Queen of Angels’ Polytechnic Obohia

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, the Catholic Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, His Excellency, Most Rev. Dr. Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, CMF, inaugurated a prestigious institute for learning and development of young talents, Our Lady Queen of Angels’ Polytechnic, Obohia, Ahiazu Mbaise L.G.A., Imo State.

Our Lady Queen of Angels’ Polytechnic Obohia is a brainchild of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Ibeh, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara. He founded this noble institution in the year 2008 with the name Our Lady Queen of Angels’ Computer/Music Academy, and it later graduated to Our Lady Queen of Angels’ Institute. The fast-rising institute continued to wax stronger in various areas of development, which earned it the attention and subsequent certification of its institute as a polytechnic in the year 2025 by the Ministry of Imo State Tertiary and Technical Education.

The event commenced with a Solemn Eucharistic Celebration at the Polytechnic premises, with the Bishop as the presider and other priests, together with the founder, as concelebrants. While delivering the homily, the Vicar General of Ahiara Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Godson Okoro, thanked God for the gift of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Ibeh, the founder, for using him as a veritable instrument to bring enlightenment, growth, and development to the society, especially in the lives of the young ones. He went on to appreciate the efforts of the founder and his collaborators for the new reality, especially for bringing it home. He stated that the institution will help to gather the young ones who are scattered all over the society to help develop their talents and acquire new skills. Fr. Okoro emphasized the need to support and encourage the polytechnic in any possible way, as it will help develop the society, mitigate criminality, and enhance productivity and communal cohesion. Fr. Okoro opined that the polytechnic has come to define the Mbaise Nation, for we are the ones to say who we are; thus, there is a need for everyone to support it. He thanked the Bishop and the Diocesan officials for their input towards the reality and inauguration of the Polytechnic and prayed for good tidings upon the Polytechnic.

The Founder/Director welcomed the Bishop, priests, religious, and all present for the inauguration of the Polytechnic. Specifically, he thanked Rt. Very Msgr. Theophilus Nwalo (of blessed memory) and Very Rev. Fr. Godson Okoro for the blessing and laying of the foundation of the First Academic Block.

The prelate, in his remarks, thanked the founder and his collaborators for this great achievement and pledged the support of the Diocese to them. He admonished the students to be good representatives of the institution. The bishop encouraged them to make judicious use of the opportunities they have, to learn new skills, and to acquire the good things they can.

Following the Mass was the blessing of the New Academic Block site by the Bishop and the laying of the foundation by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Opara.

Debriefing the founder, he made known his candid intentions to make the polytechnic an enviable institution. Fr. Hyacinth Ibeh brought to the attention of the public that the polytechnic is ready and willing to partner with others. He equally said that sponsors are needed to help them realize their goals, especially as they have scholarship schemes for students. He appealed to people of goodwill to assist them in any way they can.

The highlights of the event include the planting of the inauguration tree by the Bishop, the welcome address by Prof. Chigbu Ezeji (the Rector of the Polytechnic), the cutting of the inauguration cake, presentations by various departments of the Polytechnic, the cultural dance display by the students, the Igba ndi Eze cultural dance display, and other interesting and engaging activities to make it a memorable and remarkable day.

Our Lady Queen of Angels’ Polytechnic Obohia is a well-grounded institution with so many prospects of developing and offering young talents the opportunity to harness and enhance their God-given talents as well as acquire skills that will aid them in life. The institution has many departments, like music, fashion design, arts, and others.
