BertoEdAngeli Medical Centre, in conjunction with Holy Rosary Hospital, Ogbor Nguru Mbaise, has rolled out a medical and health awareness mission targeting communities in Mbaise with the theme “Companions of the Wounded Healer Medical and Health Awareness Mission.” This new step toward healthier living, launched by the medical team, is strategically spread across all the local government areas in Mbaise, targeting very remote communities in each LGA between December 2024 and January 2026. However, there will be a more central location for the grand finale, holding on 9th January 2026, at Mother Mary Colman Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Ogbor Nguru, Mbaise, Imo State. At the moment, the team has concluded the first and second phases of this medical outreach.
First Phase
The first phase of this free and comprehensive medical outreach started in Ezinihitte Mbaise and was held at Queen of Peace Hospital/Maternity Amumara Ezinihitte Mbaise on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. About 200 patients received free medical care for malaria, typhoid, pregnancy, ulcers, diabetes, BP, eye problems, prostate, etc. Before consultations and treatment began, health education on malaria/typhoid as well as eye care was given to enlighten the local population on how to treat, avoid, minimize, manage, or stay ahead of these rampant challenges.
Presenting the keynote address, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Ben Nwachukwu-Udaku explained why the medical and health awareness mission is necessary for our people, especially those in local places and in the places where the diocesan hospitals and maternities are located. He was full of deep appreciation for Dr. Miguel Garcia of Carmen Medical Clinic in Fontana, CA, USA, a friend of the BertoEdAngeli Foundation, who is the primary sponsor of this free, successful, and comprehensive medical outreach. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the BertoEdAngeli Foundation, Fr. Nwachukwu-Udaku expressed sincere gratitude to the local coordinators of this beautiful humanitarian apostolate.
In addition to the medical intervention, each visitor also got a very rich lunch pack as well as much-needed prophylactic and hygiene items such as treated mosquito nets, sanitary pads, and detergents. Eyeglasses were also distributed free of charge to all in need of such.
Residents and patients were jubilant and showered spontaneous blessings on Rev. Fr. Dr. Ben Nwachukwu-Udaku and the facilitators of this Christmas health and wellness gift to them, all to the glory of God!
Second Phase
On the 19th of December 2025, BertoEdAngeli Medical Center, in collaboration with Holy Rosary Hospital, Ogbor Nguru Mbaise, embarked on another phase of Companions of the Wounded Healer medical outreach, this time to the people of Eziama Kingdom.
The free and detailed medical mission, a brainchild of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Ben Nwachukwu-Udaku, made possible by his good friend in the US, was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Eziama Oparanadim Ekwerazu, Mbaise, Imo State.
An estimated number of 200 beneficiaries, including children, men, women, and youths, attended the program, each presenting with various health concerns and seeking medical care.
The event was honored by the presence of His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, CMF, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara, who was also coincidentally marking the second anniversary of his episcopal ordination.
In his remarks, Fr. Ben Nwachukwu-Udaku explained why he brought this free and comprehensive medical intervention to these communities, sponsored by the Good Samaritan, Dr. Miguel Garcia of Carmen Medical Clinic in Fontana, CA.
Fr. Nwachukwu-Udaku heartily congratulated the Bishop on his second episcopal ordination anniversary, calling him a Bishop with a heart for the poor, those on the fringes of our society, in line with the passion of Pope Francis. He gave some cash donations to the Bishop to support his feed-the-poor apostolate and presented a beautiful anniversary cake, which the Bishop blessed and shared with all present.
The Bishop thanked Fr. Ben and the brains behind the successful realization of this wonderful show of love towards those who find it difficult to afford proper medical attention. His Lordship urged all to take their health seriously, and he blessed those gathered as well as those who organized the medical outreach.
Activities for the day began with a health education session on ulcer disease. Participants were educated on the importance of proper consultation with qualified health professionals and cautioned against self-medication, as many illnesses often present with similar symptoms. This was followed by medical consultations and the dispensation of prescribed medications.
In addition to medical care, beneficiaries received packs of lunch, soft drinks, and water, as well as mosquito nets, sanitary pads, and detergents, all of which were distributed amidst visible joy and gratitude from the recipients.
Phase three (Aboh Mbaise LGA) of the holistic medical outreach comes up on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Divine Love Hospital, Amuzu, Aboh Mbaise, Imo State. After that would be the final phase at Mother Mary Colman Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Ogbor Nguru, Mbaise, Imo State, on Friday, 9 January 2026.
