As part of its ongoing commitment to clergy formation and welfare, the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara has organized a seminar for priests with over 30 years in ministry, focusing on the realities of retirement and sustained personal well-being.
Held on March 24, 2026, at the Diocesan Priests’ Conference Hall, the gathering brought together senior clergy in what proved to be both a reflective and fraternal encounter.
In his opening remarks, Rev. Fr. Anthony Uche Nwachukwu, the chairman of the Provincial Bishops’ Conference Theological Commission/Committee for Seminar, welcomed all to the seminar. He described the gathering as an opportunity for a “reality check” and for honest self-assessment and encouraged participants to engage thoughtfully with issues relating to health, vocation, and life beyond active ministry.
The key lecture, delivered by Rev. Fr. Prof. Boniface Nwigwe, focused on “The Psychology of Retirement: The Priest at the Threshold of Retirement,” offering a careful synthesis of psychological insight and pastoral experience and addressing both the challenges and the quiet fulfillment that can accompany this stage of life.
The exchange that followed, marked by openness and shared experience, reinforced a sense of fraternity among the clergy, even as it pointed towards practical and faithful ways of navigating the years ahead.
